These stools were made as guest seating for the Royal Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. They are excellent examples as they are retain their original blue covers and internal upholstery and seat webbing. The stools are stamped on the inside rails CORONATION and are in excellent condition. After the coronation, and in order to try and recover some of the costs of the event, by an act of Parliament those who had attended the coronation were allowed to purchase the stool they had sat on during the ceremony. In 1953 the chairs were sold for 4 pounds 7 shillings each.
