These chairs were made as guest seating for the Royal Coronation of George VI in 1937. They are outstanding examples as they retain their original fabric on the seats and backs. The King’s monogram embroider is in the backs and the chairs even retain their original internal upholstery and seat webbing. The chairs are stamped and dated on the inside rails with the Kings initials, the year date of the Coronation (1937) and the chair makers name – W.Hands & Sons. Example’s like this, that have survived and retained their original seats and backs since the Coronation of George VI (who was Queen Elizabeth II father), are indeed scare and are a great piece of British Royal history.
