A pair of George II style carved wood and gilt eagle console tables with marble tops. These tables are of very good quality, well carved and retain their original gilt surface. During the early 20th century the wealthy begun to favour town living over their large, draughty and often remote country houses. As such their town houses were refurbished and often furniture was commissioned in the style of the 18th century pieces already in their Stately homes – but to a scale more appropriate to the smaller town house. This pair of tables are such an example and so have a great look at a very convenient and usable size. This particular pair are a really good example in terms of quality and style.
