Dating from the late 17th or early 18th century, this Old Master is painted on an oak board, as was typical for the period. It is attributed to the Irish artist James Maubert (1666-1746). His speciality was painting members of the aristocracy, often with their children being shown with flowers or gardens in the background. Coming from a UK private collection, it is in a period carved wood and gilt frame that could well be the original.
