A Superb Regency Period Gillows Satinwood Davenport

Circa: 1825

Depth: 21"

Height: 35.5"

Width: 20.5"

Period: Regency

Location: Hungerford

A Regency period satinwood davenport. Made from West Indian satinwood, the davenport desk has a fretted gallery, pull out slide and pen drawer. It stands on classic Regency Gillow design end supports and spay legs both with carved decoration. Due to the expensive cost of satinwood during the early 19th century it is very unusual to find a davenport in this timber but from the quality of cabinet making and unusual design this would have been an expensive commission by a wealthy patron. The inset leather appears to be original and the whole desk is of an excellent colour.

"A classic example of wonderful Gillow design and their superb quality of cabinet making and timber selection."
