A 19th century portrait of a British Coldstream Guards Officer in dress uniform. This oil painting most likely shows the officer at an overseas posting. From the fact that the carpet and vase have an Asian theme and through the open window a harbour bay can be seen, it is very possible that this painting shows the unknown senior officer in Hong Kong. He has his faithful spaniel at his feet, perhaps hinting at his country estate back home in England.

“I love the fact that which Guards Regiment the officer belongs to can be deduced by the way his tunic buttons are placed. This is still the case today with the senior Guards regiments of The British Army."
